53.10.0 Postal activities under universal service obligation

Note: WZ 2008 is based on binding international classifications of economic activities. Therefore it includes a classification item for “Postal activities under universal service obligation”. However since 1 January 2008 no enterprise in Germany operates under a universal service obligation anymore. The universal services are provided in competition. In co-ordination with the responsi-ble institutions it was therefore decided, to classify all postal services as “Other postal and cou-rier activities”. The classification item “Postal activities under universal service obligation” is not used in official statistics.
